Balti Club, Glasgow

February 13, 2008

Balti club is a handy little kebab shop.  Some real good reasons to go to this diner/kebab shop are

 - it’s open during the day (except Saturday daytime)
- great range of pakora - cauliflower, cheese etc.
- great kebabs with a very spicey sauce…try chicken or lamb fillet

The diner atmosphere is great for a quick bite to eat on the run.

Parking is OK at the petrol station or on a meter.

Shenaz Glasgow

January 10, 2008

The best Indian restaurant anywhere, for sure.

Shenaz in Glasgow is somewhat of a traditional Indian fayre with their vegetable pakora, beef biryani and special beef being the best on offer.  Their nane breads are devine also.

Tickled Trout Milngavie

December 21, 2007

Somewhat of a country fayre type restaurant, the Tickled Trout offers the usual steak pie and mash, fish and chips, roast dinner etc. etc. you might find in a hotel.

Back in 2000 it was run to sheer excellence…later it was taken over by incompetent owners and the food/service nosedived.  It has since been taken over again and again…and gives mediocre food on a budget.

Sadly the steak pie is one of those pies with free entry to the ‘find-the-steak’ competition.

Would I recommend?  Only if I was desperate….the chips are good though (avoid the deserts and the coca cola has had twice as much sugar put into it as recommended).

Chinese Buffet, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow

October 20, 2007

The chinese buffet is built into what used to be the cinema in sauchiehall street.

As chinese buffets go it is one of the better, offering just about every dish under the sun.  In the evening there is more choice than lunchtime.  Prices are cheap - under £10 and you can even fill up a carton and pay for it ‘to go’.

Downsides are excessive amounts of salt which will leave you dry as the desert.  Deserts are low key affairs of cheap processed brand, OK but nothing to write home about.

7/10 - good if you’re on a budget and starving

Fix in the Bellagio hotel casino, Las Vegas

July 13, 2007

‘Fix’ looks like a wash and go bar/restaurant but it in fact serves awesome food cooked to perfection.

We told the waiter we were in a hurry as we were going to the Cirque du Soleil show later.

No problem, our food was expressed to us.  Scallops were amazing and service fantastic.  9/10.

Pyrmonts restaurant, Star City Casino Sydney

June 22, 2007

Pyrmonts is within the Star City casino.

Needless to say the food had been mediocre throughout Australia so far, but Pyrmonts really showed it was a cut above the rest.

An enthusiastic waiter greeted us and we had a nice large booth to have our meal in…two thumbs up so far.

Greek salad was excellent and I had a steak with mash, just fantastically cooked to perfection.

Fruit mocktails were lovely and we had just a lovely meal, 9/10.  It seems you can’t go wrong with a top restaurant within a casino….

Buffet at Crowne Casino

June 6, 2007

The Crown Casino Buffet is a cheap affair….don’t be fooled by the queue at feeding time, it is CRAP.

The food looks OK but closer examination shows it’s just regular chow, a lot of it designed for the asian customers who want a cheap feed.  Everything is on the bone, no tenderloin here.

It didn’t digest that great either - suggesting the food isn’t fresh.  Avoid.

Cafe Grecco, Crowne Casino Melbourne

May 20, 2007

Cafe Grecco is an outstanding restaurant within Crowne Casino in Melbourne.

Serving Greek, Italian and continental food, it’s got a fantastic choice.

I opted for calamari for starter which was excellent and Greek kebab for main - superb lamb, very tender aside from one piece.

On our second visit I had prawns with rice which was OK and Greek salad for starter which was excellent.

Great service and great food, had an excellent breakfast there also.

Georges at Crowne Promenade Casino, Melbourne

May 15, 2007

Georges is a quick to go place at the Crowne Casino.  I  opted for the Mexican pizza which had outstanding topping - a meat fest with jalepenos and sour cream.  Tasted great, although the base was paper thin (guess so they cook quick).

The wife had a Margeuhrita pizza which was very bland in comparison - so if at Georges try the Mexican pizza for around $9 AUS.

Service was good even though there was a queue.  I would recommend if in the casino and you want a quick bite to eat.

8/10

Seafood Buffet at Intercontinental hotel, Hong Kong

April 29, 2007

Intercontinental Hotel seafood buffet.  Wow, this could just about be the best buffet ever, even beating the Bellagio buffet.  Amazingly fresh scallops, smoked salmon, tuna, lobster, prawns and sushi are on offer.  Fantastic salads - and it gets better as there are all the usual carvery and roasts to accompany.  Chicken curry is available and a whole range of international foods.  Deserts incredible - French cakes, chocolate cakes etc. all made to the highest standard.  The breakfast buffet also is incredible, with no less than 8 fruit juices.  Intercontinental hotel definitely has the best breakfast/evening buffet in the world - but be warned, evening buffet starts in at around $70.
